So often, we do what we think we SHOULD that we forget what’s a MUST for us.

“I should stay in this job because it pays well…  even if I hate it.”

“I should work harder… even if this means not having enough time to exercise, rest, and sleep.”

“I should go out with them… even if this relationship feels like a waste of time.”

Now, what about these statements instead?

“I must do what I love.”

“I must prioritize self-care.”

“I must spend my precious time with people who make me feel good.”

We all face this crossroad of SHOULD vs MUST in life.

Sometimes those decisions are bigger, sometimes smaller – but the internal battle between the two is always there.

You follow SHOULD – when you depend your decisions on other people (family, friends, colleagues) and when you want to meet social expectations.

You follow MUST – when we take the time to listen to yourself, to your truth, and do what’s authentic for you.

The more you follow the SHOULDs, the easier it gets to forget what truly motivates you, what interests you, what you’re passionate about, what your unique talents are, what’s important to you, and why you’re here. The result? Feeling lost, confused, and overwhelmed. I’ve been there too.

That’s why, I want you to grab a piece of paper now and write this down:

  1. What REALLY stops me to follow my MUST? What stops me to live my truth?

Then look at the list of “reasons” and ask yourself:

  1. Where these SHOULDs are coming from?
  2. When have I incorporated them into my life?
  3. Do they still serve me and my well-being?

Be honest with yourself. No need to feel guilty about the past, just be gentle with yourself and look into your future. Commit to follow your MUSTs, a pathway of true happiness!
