HOW TO DEAL WITH SELF-CRITICISM

How good are you at self-kindness versus self-criticism?

Are you treating yourself as you treat a good friend with encouragement, understanding, empathy, patience and gentleness?

OR

Are you often hard on yourself by judging and comparing to others?

Study after study shows that self-compassion is very strongly related to our mental well-being. When we’re self-compassionate – we experience: less stress, less anxiety, less depression, and less perfectionism.

Self-compassion is not about being self-indulgent, narcissistic or selfish. It’s about keeping your heart open to yourself, so that you can give more to others.

Flaws, we all have them – this is called “being human”.

Next time you feel like criticising yourself for not working hard enough, not being attractive enough or feeling behind in your career or life, ask yourself this question instead:

What Can I Do To Help Myself?

Maybe what you need is this:

  • Take a deserved break from work,
  • Go for a healthy social media detox,
  • Or re-connect with people you love.

Be a good friend to yourself. Always.
