More… than…

Less… than…

Better… than…

Worse… than…

Are you often get caught up in comparisons with other people?

You are not alone. We are encouraged to do this by school system, media and social media, and our work environments. We often compare unconsciously and automatically.

Comparisons make us feel superior or inferior, neither serve a useful purpose. It’s like comparing sun to moon, apples to oranges, roses to wild flowers, etc. They all shine, bear fruit, and bloom when it’s their time.

“Comparison is the death of joy” as Mark Twain said.

The only comparison that is worth making which can truly help us grow, feel better and motivate us is –  when you’re comparing yourself to who you were a week ago, a month ago, a year ago, etc.

Ask yourself on a regular basis:

How far have I progressed with ___ since (last week, last month, last year)?

Since I began this?

Compare yourself to yourself only.

Of course, you can still admire someone’s ___ without questioning your own. The accomplishments of others can serve us as an inspiration, show us what it’s been possible for a human to be or do.

The same light you see in others is shining within you, too. Give yourself time and space to embrace it.

With love and positive vibes,

Lena
